Removing the Arrow Icon from Shortcuts
|
|
Here is a method for removing the arrows from shortcut icons that some folks find so annoying. Do be aware,
that if you use this tip, you will not be able to visually tell the difference between a shortcut and the underlying
file. To remove the arrows fire up Regedit and search for the phrase IsShortcut. There are two, one marked lnkfile
and the other piffile. Delete these entries in the Registry and restart Explorer.

Netscape Navigator and Netscape Communicator hold the url's (its Universal Resource Locator, or "URL")
of specific web pages into the "Location" or "Netsite" field at the top of the window. On Windows
3.1 and 95, the most recent locations you entered this way
will then be remembered so you can later click on the arrow at the right end of the field and select them from
a list. For many reasons, privacy being foremost, we may want to clear this list. Here is the solution:
(Note that this list that appears in the "Location" or "Netsite" field only shows locations
you've typed in; it is different from the browser's "global history" list, which keeps
track of all of the web pages you've visited.
First, quit from Navigator or Communicator before you make any changes below. Netscape should NOT be running while
you edit any files in the Netscape directory.
